Intellectual Property
In a connected world, product designers are constantly exposed to ideas and concepts from other sources. Ideas are often influenced by existing IP both deliberately and inadvertently. Legal departments of corporations spend millions of dollars to manage, maintain and defend their patents. It is critical to identify patents related to their intellectual property (IP) for the purposes of enforcement, prior art research, cross-licensing, and financial feasibility.
Current solutions rely on keyword matching, which is linear and insufficient to find the full scope of related patents to proposed or existing IP. In contrast, xPatterns performs exploratory search and discovery in patent data on the web and internal to the enterprise.
Patent Explorer exposes several different types of search that move beyond keyword matching:
- Prior art: Find a set of patents relevant to a statement or set of terms specifying the subject matter of the patent in order to find prior art.
- Related patents: Starting from a given patent, find all related patents (as opposed to using a specific term or terms as the starting point).
- Products: Find patents based an entire product description or excerpt.
- Patents in the media: Find patents matching selected news stories taken from a URL, entire article text, or excerpt from the text. Â
